Walton, on the other hand, himself observed that Heifetz seemed to demand such difficulty in the solo part of his concerto as to intimidate other violinists from tackling it. For years, when other soloists did mutter about the works impossible difficulties, Walton would tell them to blame that damned Heifetz.
