Poetry: William Shakespeare Sonnets - 1 - Those hours. that with… - Then let not winter's ragged… - Lo in the orient when the gracious light - Music to hear. why hear'st thou… - Links

 V

Those hours, that with gentle work did frame
The lovely gaze where every eye doth dwell,
Will play the tyrants to the very same
  And that unfair which fairly doth excel;
For never-resting time leads summer on
  To hideous winter, and confounds him there;
Sap checked with frost, and lusty leaves quite gone,
Beauty o'er-snowed and bareness every where:
Then were not summer's distillation left,
A liquid prisoner pent in walls of glass,
Beauty's effect with beauty were bereft,
Nor it, nor no remembrance what it was:
But flowers distill'd, though they with winter meet,
Leese but their show; their substance still lives sweet.

VI

Then let not winter's ragged hand deface,
In thee thy summer, ere thou be distill'd:
Make sweet some vial; treasure thou some place
With beauty's treasure ere it be self-kill'd.
That use is not forbidden usury,
  Which happies those that pay the willing loan;
That's for thy self to breed another thee,
  Or ten times happier, be it ten for one;
Ten times thy self were happier than thou art,
If ten of thine ten times refigur'd thee:
Then what could death do if thou shouldst depart,
  Leaving thee living in posterity?
Be not self-will'd, for thou art much too fair
To be death's conquest and make worms thine heir.

VII

Lo! in the orient when the gracious light
Lifts up his burning head, each under eye
Doth homage to his new-appearing sight,
  Serving with looks his sacred majesty;
And having climb'd the steep-up heavenly hill,
Resembling strong youth in his middle age,
Yet mortal looks adore his beauty still,
  Attending on his golden pilgrimage:
But when from highmost pitch, with weary car,
Like feeble age, he reeleth from the day,
The eyes, 'fore duteous, now converted are
From his low tract, and look another way:
So thou, thyself outgoing in thy noon:
Unlook'd, on diest unless thou get a son.

VIII

Music to hear, why hear'st thou music sadly?
Sweets with sweets war not, joy delights in joy:
Why lov'st thou that which thou receiv'st not gladly,
Or else receiv'st with pleasure thine annoy?
If the true concord of well-tuned sounds,
By unions married, do offend thine ear,
They do but sweetly chide thee, who confounds
In singleness the parts that thou shouldst bear.
Mark how one string, sweet husband to another,
  Strikes each in each by mutual ordering;
Resembling sire and child and happy mother,
Who, all in one, one pleasing note do sing:
Whose speechless song being many, seeming one,
Sings this to thee: 'Thou single wilt prove none.'

      PARA JANE

225 días bajo la hierba
y sabés más que yo.
Hace mucho que te quedaste sin sangre,
sos leña seca en una cesta.
¿Es así como son las cosas?
En esta habitación
las horas del amor
aún hacen sombras.
Cuando te fuiste
te llevaste casi
todo.
Me arrodillo por las noches
ante tigres
que no me dejan tranquilo.
Lo que fuiste
no se repetirá.
Los tigres me han encontrado
y no me importa.

      POBREZA

Es el hombre que nunca has visto
el que te sostiene en la lucha,
ese que llegará
algún día.
El no está afuera en las calles o
en los edificios, o en los
estadios,
o si está ahí
me lo perdí, de algún modo.
El no es uno de nuestros presidentes
hombres de estado o actores.
Me pregunto si está ahí.
Camino por las calles
paso kioscos y hospitales,
teatros y cines, cafés
y me pregunto si él está ahí.
He buscado casi medio siglo
y no lo he visto.
siempre, siempre.
Y pronto será demasiado tarde para mí
y habré vivido una vida
con kioscos, gatos, sábanas, saliva,
diarios, mujeres, puertas y otras cosas,
pero en ningún lado
un hombre vivo.-

SABOREO LAS CENIZAS DE TU MUERTE

Las flores esparcen
agua inesperada
en mi manga,
agua inesperada
fría y limpia
como nieve
mientras espadas
afiladas como tallos
entran
contra tu pecho
y las dulces
rocas salvajes
caen encima
y

Veo gente manejando autos
o a algún espectáculo deportivo
puedo ver miles
que no sienten nada por nada o
por nadie y no reciben
ningún sentimiento.
Por todas partes veo a aquellos que
no mendigan nada sino
comida, refugio y
ropa, ellos se concentran
en eso,
sin sueños.
No entiendo porque esa gente no
desaparece
no entiendo porque esa gente no
expira,
porque las nubes
no los asesinan
o porque los perros
no los asesinan
o porque las flores y los niños
no los asesinan,
no entiendo.
Supongo que ya están asesinados
sin embargo, no puedo acomodarme al
hecho de que existan
porque son
demasiados.
Cada día
cada noche
hay más de ellos
en los subtes
en los edificios
en los parques.
No sienten terror
por amar
o por no
ser amados.
Tantas, tantas, tantas
de mis criaturas
compañeras.-

Located in New South Wales, Australia’s Nangar National Park rises from the surrounding plain. Although the western portion of the park features gentle slopes and wide valleys, the park’s northern reaches are filled with peaks, cliffs, and gorges in a zone of deeply folded and faulted ancient rocks. A winding line of cliffs marks the park’s northern margin, where Mount Nangar stretches 770 meters (2,530 feet) above sea level.
This park landscape has been a boon to native vegetation mostly because the rugged land was too much trouble for farmers and ranchers to clear. So while the low-lying landscape around the park is cultivated for agriculture, native vegetation has persisted inside the park—resembling a giant hoof print of dark green.
From the perspective of a satellite, the seasons appear to bring greater changes to the surrounding rectangular farm plots than to the park. The Advanced Land Imager (ALI) on NASA’s Earth Observing-1 (EO-1) satellite captured the top image on April 28, 2012 (in the Southern Hemisphere autumn), and the bottom image on September 7, 2010 (spring).
For more than a decade, a drought parched southeastern Australia. But by September 2010, the Australian Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) reported cool temperatures and plentiful rains—following several months of above-average rainfall—that eased the drought in New South Wales. As a result, fresh green vegetation carpeted the region.
On average, precipitation amounts are roughly equal in April and September in Nangar National Park, between 40 and 50 millimeters (1.6 and 2.0 inches). Temperatures are slightly higher in April: 25 degrees Celsius (75 degrees Fahrenheit) compared to September’s 20 degrees Celsius (70 degrees Fahrenheit). The BOM reported that in April 2012, however, rainfall was below average and temperatures were above average. The BOM viewed the April 2012 weather as a return to drier conditions after the departure of La Niña. The different appearance of the fields around Nangar National Park likely resulted both from harvest season and the warmer, drier conditions.
Inside the park, green persists across the seasons. Park vegetation is a mixture of trees and shrubs, the understory providing a profusion of color when plants are in flower. Biologists have classified the park vegetation as dry sclerophyll forest. Plants in these ecosystems are well adapted to low soil fertility and sparse rainfall.
