Rimouski (clic here Wiki) is a Canadian city in the central part of Bas-Saint-Laurent region in eastern Quebec. It is located on the south shore of the Saint Lawrence River at the mouth of the Rimouski River, north-east of Quebec City.

The city, whose population was 42,240 in the Canada 2006 Census, offers several tourist attractions. With the new Desjardins-Telus theatre and the expansion of the industrial district to include many department stores, Rimouski has become a major service centre for the region.

Rimouski is a major regional centre and is home of several institutions such as Université du Québec à Rimouski and Cégep de Rimouski. It is the seat for the Rimouski-Neigette Regional County Municipality. It is also the centre of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Rimouski. The Saint-Germain Cathedral is the tallest building in the downtown area.

Rimouski is part of Maritime Quebec, a territory which includes the largest group of francophone and bilingual institutions dedicated to ocean sciences and technology in North America. These organizations include the Institut Maritime du Québec (IMQ), the Institut des sciences de la mer (ISMER), the Centre de recherche sur les biotechnologies marines (CRBM), the Centre interdisciplinaire de développement en cartographie des océans (CIDCO) and the Maurice-Lamontagne Institute (the federal Department of Fisheries and Oceans Marine Science Research Centre), based in Mont-Joli.

Rimouski (clic aquí Wiki) es una ciudad canadiense de la provincia del Québec situada en el municipio regional del condado de Rimouski-Neigette en la región administrativa de Bas-Saint-Laurent. Se encuentra en aproximadamente 325 km al noreste de la ciudad de Québec. Agrupa alrededor a de 42.000 habitantes (una cuarta parte de ellos, estudiantes), sobre la orilla meridional del estuario del Saint-Laurent, y ofrece varios atractivos turísticos. Con su nueva sala de espectáculos y la ampliación del barrio industrial, que acoge de numerosos grandes almacenes, la vocación de Rimouski como ciudad de servicios se confirma.

Fue fundada por René Lepage, señor de Sante-Claire, en 1696. Originario de Ouanne, en Borgoña, que intercambió una tierra que poseía en la isla de Orleans a Augustin Rouer de La Cardonnière, contra el Señorío de Rimouski. Este último era su proprietario desde 1688, pero nunca nunca se estableció allí. René Lepage instaló a toda su familia a Rimouski. Su familia puso sus tierras en valor hasta hacia los años 1780, tiempo en que estas tierras se venden progresivamente a un comerciante de Quebec, Joseph Drapeau.

El 6 de mayo de 1950, Rimouski fue el teatro de un incendio que destruyó 319 casas. Se llama a este acontecimiento "la noche roja". El fuego comenzó en la empresa maderera Price Brothers and Company sobre la orilla occidental del río Rimouski, y en poco tiempo se extendió a la ciudad debido a los fuertes vientos . No hubo víctimas humanas en el incendio.
